EA Makes It to Final Round of "Worst Company in America" Competition
Electronic Arts is current in a heated battle for a most dubious distinction. The company is facing Bank of America in the final round of The Consumerist's Worst Company in America competition, the annual reader-voted contest that pits the most annoying, shady and consumer-unfriendly corporations in a March Madness-style tournament.
And while EA may be at a low point with some consumers (read: Mass Effect 3 players), it's somewhat surprising they've lasted this long, given the corporate competition.
So far, Electronic Arts has bested (or worsted?) Sony, Best Buy, Comcast and even AT&T to make it to the final round of voting.
EA was placed in the Worst Company tournament for a few notable business practices deemed anti-consumer. These include the buying out of smaller developers and publishers and reducing competition, EA's nickel and diming approach to downloadable content and add-ons, and EA Sports' exclusivity deal with the NFL for annual Madden games.
Other Worst Company in America contenders include video game retailer GameStop, Apple and Facebook.
We'll know later this week if EA is Consumerist's Worst Company in America or whether that dishonor will be bestowed upon megabank Bank of America.
